Our Story

Rebirth Pet Cremations began with a simple belief: families deserve a gentler, more transparent, and environmentally responsible option for their beloved pets’ after-life care.

In 2024, founder Benjamin Wessel and his partner Jasmine Rose identified recurring challenges in the pet after-care experience. With more than 20 years of hands-on animal care experience across veterinary hospitals and emergency clinics, Jasmine saw firsthand the issues that pet parents and veterinary teams faced:

• Uncertainty and anxiety from pet parents who often didn’t know where their pet was or when they would be returned.
• Outdated, pen-and-paper tracking systems still used by many crematoriums.
• High and inconsistent service costs for families at an already difficult time.

It was clear that meaningful improvements were needed. While developing a new approach to after-life care, we discovered Aquamation (scientifically known as Alkaline Hydrolysis)—a modern, water-based cremation technology that provides a more compassionate and environmentally conscious alternative to flame cremation. This discovery set our vision in motion.

In 2025, Benjamin and Jasmine partnered with Mark Logue to bring this service to the HRM and surrounding areas. Together, they launched Rebirth Pet Cremations, the region’s first dedicated provider of Aquamation for pets.

Why We Chose Aquamation

Aquamation represents a significant advancement in pet after-life care—offering families a more natural, gentle, and environmentally responsible alternative without sacrificing any memorial options.

In our region, traditional fire-based cremation facilities are often located in densely populated areas where the emissions produced can impact local air quality. Water-based Cremation (“Aquamation”) appealed to us because it eliminates these concerns entirely. The process produces no harmful emissions, no greenhouse gases, and no airborne pollutants.

The liquid byproduct—a completely sterile solution of salts, amino acids, and sugars—is naturally nutrient-rich. Once we receive proper regulatory approvals, it can be safely repurposed as fertilizer and donated to local agricultural communities. This allows us to give back to the environment in a meaningful way, while still returning your pet’s cremains with the same dignity, care, and transparency you expect.

Rebirth officially opened its doors in 2025, introducing not only Aquamation, but also a modern digital tracking system designed to bring transparency and comfort to pet parents.

Our unique three-way portal—connecting the crematorium, veterinary hospitals, and pet parents—keeps everyone informed at every step. Families always know where their pet is and when they will be returned, removing uncertainty during an already emotional time.

Making Aquamation Accessible

Although we believe Aquamation is a premium service, we chose to keep our pricing competitive with traditional flame cremation. Cost should never be the deciding factor when choosing the most compassionate and environmentally responsible option.  

We encourage pet parents to book directly with us if they are looking to reduce costs, as we can handle pickup and return ourselves. However, we also recognize the convenience of coordinating everything through trusted veterinary clinics—which is why we continue to partner with as many clinics as possible across the region.

We want every pet parent to feel empowered and informed. “You have the right to choose where your pet is cremated. You are under no obligation to use the crematorium selected by your veterinary clinic.”
